So, I bought a new guitar this month - a Taylor - after many years of envy and desire... I was tuning it the other day and hit an Am and an Em. It sounded kind of like cowboy chords to me, so these words came to mind "it's hot in the desert..." and suddenly the song was born! Haha - weird inspiration, but who cares! Disclaimer - I actually live in the snowy north, and though I think the southwest is a great place to visit, I don't think I'd want to live there. However, the thought is exponentially more appealing the more snow and ice we get!
It’s hot in the desert – hot as hot can be
I’m wishin’ now, I’d stayed somehow
In the cool of my RV
It’s hot in the desert – but as you can see
I’m not afraid, tryin’ to find some shade
Beneath a Palo Verde tree
It’s dry in the desert – dry as dry can be
I’m wishin’ now, by the sweat of my brow
I’d remembered my Klean Kanteen
It’s dry in the desert – but as you can see
I won’t complain for the lack of rain
It’s the way its gotta be
There’s a quiet beauty in the cactus and the sand
Rocks and shrubs and rattlesnakes and lizards own the land
The sun shines down all day, the wind blows back and forth
But I wouldn’t trade this lack of shade for all the snow up north!
It’s harsh in the desert – harsh as harsh can be
Oppressive as heck on the back of my neck
Well, the temp’s a hundred and three!
It’s harsh in the desert – but as you can see
It’s just my luck to have a couple of bucks
And a luxury RV
I love the desert, but I bet you’d all agree
That the desert’s best, when you can take some rest
And crank up the old AC!
Oh, it’s hot in the desert, and it’s dry in the desert, oh yes, and it’s harsh in the desert,
it’s barren, and dusty, hey is that a tumbleweed? Where’s Georgia O’Keefe when you need her…
