A part of this song came to me when the Oingo Boingo song "Stay" popped up in my You Tube feed. Clearly an algorithm at Google knew that I used to be a fan of Oingo Boingo - I'm gonna ask Google Analytics to deliver my eulogy, they know so much about me.
Anyway, wrote and recorded this last night, it's straight outa Logic with no production.
It's about my city Melbourne, which used to be a wonderful city, now it's big and ugly, has lost its sense of humour and is obsessed with its own real estate.
this is an ugly city full of dust and greed
full of greedy people
who can’t seem to leave
woohoo (I can't do that, my voice breaks - I did it in one take but couldn't get it in the final take)
she’s a little one who says she’s got it made
a letter from the bank says she’s just been paid
went hillsong with her friends and now she’s saved
she sits alone weeping on her toilet break
shiny boxes on the block can’t look away
this is an ugly city
full of rust and weeds
full of lazy people
too lazy to see
