We started with video game sounds and ended up in a cave somewhere who knows
"hey what happens if everything has reverb and also ping pong delay?"
this song is what happens.
Well cool - I like the ambigeous beat 1 until the kick comes along. This is awesome once it opens out, the side-chaining on that hellish synth is superb.
Such a cool otherworldly feel! It's like being showered with pleasant mystery.
...So this one IS a movie soundtrack, right?
I'll admit, from a time signature/pulse standpoint, I was totally thrown off by the piano right-hand chords. When the full section came in I was pleasantly surprised by the mix.
That guitar ostinato works amazingly well, but I'd have never picked either one of you to look to The Edge as an influence. 😉
To be totally fair, I could absolutely see the opening two minutes of this fitting into a video game, but then after that it is clear that this needs to be center stage by itself, not accompanying some other stimulus. The shift to drier sound quality right before 3:00 is really appealing.
Am I gonna be the guy who runs down a FAWM comment character limit? What an honor!
I like that the two key centers aren't also in the same mode. It makes that brief reprieve on an Em7 chord really stick out and makes the listener sense a change coming.
Um, while y'all aren't looking, I'm just gonna download this real quick... Nice work lads.
