Liner Notes

Barbara's lyrics-only notes:

Valentine candy heart inspired: CRAZY 4/4 YOU

At first it bugged me that my candy slogan is so grammatically incorrect, and therefore incapable of being a true pun. And then I let that go and decided to play with it. Here's the result. Thanks, FAWM Candy Gods!

Genre tags are just guesses. [Since removed for the demo: pop, bubblegum, Casio]

I'm at work, and I'm finding very little time to do demos this month anyway. So I'm very open to anyone who feels called to add music.

P.S. Our storyteller has no idea there's such a thing as 5/4 or 7/4. Don't blow her mind just yet. 'Wild' is a relative thing.

-------------------------------------------------

UPDATE: Pearse (@pcob1993) will be tickling your fancy soon with a demo here!

And, it's up!!
I hope you guys like it as much as I do. Performed very much immediately on the fly this afternoon, but delayed while emails were traded. The gentle jazz treatment was a surprise, but for me it lifted the words to a different level of sincerity. And gotta love that soothing tone any day! Plus, a surprise at the very end...
Thank you, Pearse!

Lyrics

intro:
Call me unconventional
Claim it's a wild hair
Say I'm off the deep end
Or acting on a dare

This song is just for you
so what else could I do…?

v1
When we met I was a whole note
an ever present 'om'
a '1' without an answer
and stillness was my home
But meeting you gave rhythm
to my open ended days
and now I've started counting
how I love you, oh, the ways!

Ch
(And it's in) crazy 4/4,
If I was crazy before,
This is me crazy 4/4
For you

v2
Call me a late bloomer
Claim I was a bore
Sue me if I didn't know
that life held so much more
But meeting you turned up the volume
of my beating heart
And now I measure all the times
it beats while we're apart

It beats in crazy 4/4…
I think that I was crazy before
But now I'm crazy 4/4
For you

I love in crazy 4/4
I think that I was crazy before
But now I'm crazy 4/4
For you

The melody and chord structure is perfect for the style of the lyrics; makes it sound like it's right out of the Great American Song Book.

And I'm impressed by how "crazy 4/4 you" got worked so seamlessly into the lyric -- and is reflected throughout -- with the rhythm, counting, beating, etc. -- nice job both of you!

Cool easy tone and sincere voice contrasted the nice cheekiness if the lyrics. Well done in. Both sides !

  • @adnama17  Feb 16

Smoky jazzy awesomeness! I can see the seedy bar you're playing in, low lights, flashing half-lit neon sign in the window, some couple making out in the corner, a guy asleep on the bar, snow gently falling, a cigarette burning in an ash tray, a half drunk beer on a random table, and your sexy girlfriend winking at you at the end playing her flute. Yeah, this is a great treatment for these lyrics. Love it!

@pcob1993 really brought this to life.
The music is gorgeous and unique.
    The guitar is great.
So glad this got a demo

I agree with Tim I really wasn’t expecting it to head in this soft, sultry direction - but it really worked. It allows the play on words to really shine, and allows us to really hear the cleverness in the lyrics. I honestly love it - it has a beautiful jazzy quality to my ears

THe demo starts so differently from what I might have expected. Soulful approach puts the whole smart'n'funny into a totally different and much more fluid vein. The puns are all still there but they now come across (to my smartarse eyes'n'ears with FT in control at present) as an affectionate and caring love song. Applause!

  • @valeriecox  Feb 15

Fun, nerdy musical humor. What could be better?

  • @timfatchen  Feb 15

You could always take it as a stutter! What a string of smart puns and notation noodles, and I bet you used manuscript to write this out. Ping if you do demo pls.

  • @sherrycanary  Feb 14

    Adorable word play.
Impressed that you found a way to write what was on your FAWM heart.
Intro is very clever as this was a dare.
Last 2 lines of V1 are especially clever

Super cool super cute lyrics. Fun to read. Absolutely wonderful!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 14

Wonderful and fun word plays and a perfect holiday and FAWM song lyric!

  • @helenseviltwin  Feb 14

This is super-cute. I like the idea that the person thought they were complete/whole note until they met the crazy rhythm-maker. That metaphor wouldn't work in the UK, where it's a semi-breve, but that is by the by.

  • @pcob1993  Feb 14

How absolutely lovely B, what a gift... I'm on it....

  • @cindyrella  Feb 14

So creative and a wonderful song for Valentine's!

  • @owl  Feb 14

Nice--I love all the clever plays on words about music and time signatures in your lyrics here! I almost hear it as a Britney Spears song in my head, with a lot of dramatic stops... (and I hear the chorus in 5, actually? that would be a trip!)
