Round 2 of the Badass Riff Tournament (Round 1 here: https://fawm.org/forums/topic/9095/#c...)
Ok. So, I tried several different things, but decided to go less metal and more "growl" and attitude.
So, I went with a pulsing quarter note rock dirge blues thing.
SG Epiphone in drop D.
Hard pan SG left and right basically only playing a muted chunky D chord.
Up center is the main guitar, also the SG. This is all going through my fender amp into a classic sm57 mic.
I'm using a drop D type tuning. Not exactly sure what it was...same as my last riff contest.
I then added in my Tele playing the highest lead notes using a different sound through my POD hd500.
Drums are me playing the simplest rock beat I can play.
The first time I did it playing the ride, but it just ended up sounding too wimpy, so I took the Tom Petty Wildflowers approach and avoided all crash/ride cymbals.
I also detuned my bass down to low D and it plays along with the quarter note thing.
Very basic. The mix took a little bit, but I'm happy with it's rocktitude now.
