Today, Mars Rover Opportunity was officially declared dead. I have a lot of feelings about space.
So, I wrote my second FAWM song. It doesn't have music yet, per se. There's a bit of something in my head, but not enough to but together yet. There IS a demo for the chorus.
It's still rough, so scansion may be iffy.
[Verse 1]
Hello from this red planet,
I have been here for some time
I’m the sixth of seven sisters
We’re a fine strong family line
Our parents number many,
Love built in our gears and screws,
And if we could be different,
There’s nothing else we’d choose.

Born for one-way trips to Mars,
To expand the things you know,
From blue and green to red
Hurtling through space we go
We’ll always be so grateful
For this opportunity
Thank you for believing
And for your curiosity

You gave me ninety Earth days,
I gave you five thousand one hundred sixty days more.

Mars 2’s landing failed her.
Mars 3 sent 70 lines.
Sojourner’s fate uncertain
Signal lost when her base died.
Beagle 2 made her landing,
But her solar panels locked.
Spirit’s voice has fallen silent,
Stuck fast in dust and rock.
[Verse 4]
November, from Cape Canaveral,
About eight years after me,
My seventh sister left the Earth
To find out what she could see.
Landing safely eight months later,
She threw her shadow on Martian sand,
Today she’s working still, researching,
Gathering samples, data, sending what she can.

"My battery is low,

Perhaps far in the future

Aw. Good idea of counting out the days, it has more impact that way. I particularly like the first verse...so many good lines there. Hope to hear it soon. 😀
