Just in time for Valentine's day . . .
He Gets Angry
He gets angry
When the children won’t stop making noise
I distract them
We color and put away toys
It’s understandable; he needs his sleep
He works the night shift; this house isn’t cheap
So we’ll keep quiet
So he won’t get angry
He gets angry
When I say he’s had too much to drink
So I’m learning
To not always say what I think
He needs the weekends to sit and relax
It’s not fair of me to be lobbing attacks
So I keep quiet
So he won’t get angry
He gets angry when I get scared
And I get scared when he’s angry
He gets angry
When I say that I think I might leave
He starts pleading
I’m not sure what I should believe
He says he loves me and I know it’s true
And would I be able to find someone new
So I keep quiet
So he won’t get angry
And if I keep quiet
He might not get angry

Oof. This is a tough subject but you did it justice. The last verse in particular is a little hard to listen to just because of how true it is. Sigh. Your melody and guitar are beautiful but sad, as they should be for this kind of song. Powerful.

As a man who has struggled with anger management issues, this song slays me. There's so much going on here that resonates. I worry about unintended consequences--and this lays them bare. It's such a complicated situation.

Complex deal making going on in this story. Lots of reasons to stay and to leave, I imagine. Is the character overly understanding? She concedes that there is love. Doesn't sound like anyone's happy--but maybe it could be worse. The song doesn't really make a judgement, but it leaves that open to the listener. Like I said, complex.

There is such an honest heartfelt intimacy and angst in this song that tugs at the heart with the depth of love amid the uncertainty and sadness of thr situation. Tugs at the heartstrings with the poignancy it delivers.

Oof: "I’m learning / To not always say what I think"
Your gentle delivery makes this all the more heart wrenching.

Excellent telling of how the trap works, and how it cycles thereafter. Wonderful to listen to, and important to understand.

Wow. This is heartbreaking. Your guitar playing supports your melody and the lyrics...everything fits together so well. This is a masterful treatment of a heavy subject.

Wow! This one hits close to home for me. (Not in my current relationship!) Way to handle the topic of domestic abuse.
