Heroes don't always win.
Heroes
(F) (G) (C) (C)
He used to be Roy Rodgers when (F)he was five years(C) old
With his(F) silver cap guns (C)blazing on a(G) wooden horse he rode
(C)Fighting all the outlaws(F) there in his back (C)yard
Moms’(F)hugs were (C)his reward but the (G)work was pretty(C) hard( C)
When he turned 18 he thought he(F) would become John(C) Wayne
Joined the(F) US Army and fought a(C) war that was in(G)sane
(C)All the killing and dying (F)had him seeing(C) red
Back (F)at home the(C) war keeps re(G)playing in his (C)head(C)
(Am)Heroes don’t always(F) get the best
Some(G)times they just get(C) dead
to(Am) them it don’t much(F) matter
Cause they(G) never lower their(C) heads
And(Am) even when they’re(F) beaten(G) they will still stand(Am) tall
(F)Heroes don’t(G) always win, some(F)times (G)Heroes(C) fall (C) (F)(G)(C)(C)
Now he’s a firefighter and puts(F) his life on the(C) line
(F)tries to get the(C) fires out before (G)anybody dies
(C)Yesterday he went in and(F) never did come(C) out
That he(F) gave his life for(C) others(G) never was a(C) doubt(C)
(Am)Heroes don’t always(F) get the best
Some(G)times they just get(C) dead
to(Am) them it don’t much(F) matter
Cause they(G) never lower their(C) heads
And(Am) even when they’re(F) beaten(G) they will still stand(Am) tall
(F)Heroes don’t(G) always win, some(F)times (G)Heroes(C) fall (C)
(Am)Heroes don’t always(F) get the best
Some(G)times they just get(C) dead
to(Am) them it don’t much(F) matter
Cause they(G) never lower their(C) heads
And(Am) even when they’re(F) beaten(G) they will still stand(Am) tall
(F)Heroes don’t(G) always win, some(F)times (G)Heroes(C) fall (C)

This is a lovely song. (Despite the fact, that I like the video:-) The lyrics are great, it makes me think Johnny Cash! You have a great way of story telling here, along with some lovely melodies. Hope you are proud of this, it's a winner!

A rare treat to get a ‘live’ performance from Bill. Beautiful sentiment in the song. A hero is a person who just goes and does it when it needs doing. All heroes get medals, some -like you describe- also get dead. A hero is a person who did the math -they might die doing this thing that needs doing- and do it anyway.
Thanks for the salute.

At first it took me to a ranch where I could taste the grit of the dirt in the air as a horse rode by - to remembering my great grandfather who was killed in WWI. Thanks for this.
