I wanted to do a song inspired by the Junior M.A.F.I.A. track, "Get Money." It's one of my favorite hip hop songs with unforgettable raps from Biggie Smalls and Lil Kim. It samples this extraordinary song I wanted to use for inspiration called, "You can't turn me away," by Sylvia Striplin. I like what I did here.
At first I thought it'd have just one part but it was screaming for another section. So I wrote it. I'm glad I did because it made the song come alive in a very cool way.
Then as I worked on it I realized it also unintentionally sounded like Steely Dan's, "Black Cow."
The lyrics were originally inspired by this new American politician known as AOC. She is making a name for herself and not taking shit from anyone. So it could be about politics but it could also be about a rookie athlete going up against a tried and true veteran.
I don't think I've ever reached the halfway point this fast before. I'm writing songs faster but yes I'm also not going to the gym either. 😀
UPDATE: It does meet the week 2 challenge for chromaticism too. The verse goes from Gm to Am and moves to Bbm on the chorus. And in the synth solo I use some chromatic notes too.
You think I am foolish, naive immature
But I’ve had some seasons
You are premature in this game
Everyone like me is not the same
I am watching
Your moves as I play
Watch me turn and watch me slay
Don’t misjudge me
Don’t you count me out
You don’t know what I’m about
You’re a strong opponent, been at this for years
But I see you slipping
Your regime will end we all know
You and your old ways will have to go
