Gentle Rain, Let Me Down Easy (started as “Bass Riff Song”)
c2019 steven wesley guiles/ascap
it's lightly raining outside. drops on the window.
started as me wanting to do a song with all basses and vocals.
turned into a quiet instrumental with electronic elements and a harmonica.
first I played a pretty ambient sounding keyboard in omnisphere (i could explore the sounds in here for the rest of my life and never finish...it’s HUUUUGE).
then i looped a bassline. simple little thing. i actually had the driving moving bass idea FIRST and thought it’d be cool to have a simple pad sound to go under with the bass.
then i added a harmonia. then i added another sound from omnisphere called fair and square 2 (in their hip hop section).
no drums...felt chill so I decided not to add a beat. the bass sort of propels it.
i had a lot of programming of the volume of channels. slowly rising and dropping.
whole song start to finish probably took 20-30 minutes.
i like it.
it’s fawmiliar to me.
