Stained and Bleached

by @suzastaff

Feb 2019   alt-country indie folk girl-with-guitar lateentry zong

Liner Notes

One of those songs you start writing in your head when you're looking in the bathroom mirror after a long night of drink and cigarette.

Lyrics

Looked in the mirror
Did not like what I see
Started having a conversation
Conversation with me

Blue eyed stare. Staring back at me.
Silent voice whispers
Why don't you believe? X 2

Years slipping now.
From beneath me.
Half my life gone.
Stained and bleached.
Stained and bleached.

Don't break that stare girl
Focus now.
Silent voice yelling
figure it out.
Figure out how.
Figure out how.

Looked in the mirror
Did not like what I seen
Started having a conversation.
Conversation with me.

Conversations with me is a great focus of this. Delving into the "what have I done with my life" and not liking the answer. Nicely done.

The vocals are so true and relatable lyrics. It's amazing what you can accomplish with two chords and a well written set of lyrics. This is awesome!

You always have such great images. The image of stained, then bleached relative to our past is really powerful to me. It makes me think of all the stupid shit I've done and how I have to rationalize that I was young and stupid then, etc. But then my inner voice is like, but that was last week...

Highly relatable, which is what gives this song its power.
EXCELLENT opening song, keep it up!

Cool window into a conversation. I like the feel, and the melody. Yelling at yourself. Whispering to yourself. Not a peaceful evening at home, more of a knock-down-dragout I guess.

But these are questions everybody has probably asked themselves in the mirror, which to me makes this a good song, and I'm glad I took the time to listen.
