This is a song about my friend Wendy who passed away last Spring. I had not been in touch with her for awhile and I wanted to write a song for her this year.
When I think about you, you are alive
A broken smile hiding pain
Full of ambition, you were on a mission
Coming to see me again.
You talked about music as always
About rhythm, meaning and rhyme
Exchanging glances, then lost in circumstances
Then I heard you had run out of time
Headstones and heavenly bones
Mark our time with significant others
Whether they be friends or lovers
Milestones on the road of life
When I think about you, you’re in Cambridge
Going for a walk in the park
You talk about grandchildren, you talk about concerts
At times we would talk about Marcus.
I knew about you before I knew you
There was fire deep in your heart
But there wasn’t an answer for that terrible cancer
Over time, you came apart (chorus twice to end)
