Liner Notes

This is my entry to the Fake It Challenge posted by @metalfoot in this forum thread:

https://fawm.org/forums/topic/8788/

He provided lyrics and chords as if you've stumbled across a song in a Fake Book that you've never heard before and you have to figure out the melody and all the rest just from lyrics and chords.

I'm also tagging this "synth-country" because **everything** is a virtual instrument except my voice (hmmm... I suppose I could be a Vocaloid and not realize it, so there's that). Because it's all done with virtual instruments there's an added layer of mirth to the concept of "fake."

Lyrics

Verse 1:

The radiant glow of the setting sun
Brings to mind all we have done
Recalls the ever-changing years
And now my eyes fill up with tears

Chorus:

I can't fake it anymore
I can't take it anymore
Now that you're gone
It's hard to move on
I can't fake it anymore

Verse 2:

The ebbing tides of the ocean shore
They bring a sadness to my soul
Prompt my mind of our old days
And leaves me rolling like the waves

Chorus:

Bridge:

Since you're gone
I know that I can't stay
Since you're gone
I've got to find a way
Since you've gone
How can I break from this old dance?
Since you've gone
I need to find a new romance...

Chorus:

I like the simple drum rhythm and the lead guitar lines during the pauses. A seemingly simple but not so simple version! Enjoyed it very much.

I like the way you take your time singing. The music is moving but the words have time to sink in. Well done!

Those little lead lines between the vocals! So great.

This one has almost an 80's casio flair to it. Nostalgic and well done.

And you have wonderful little vocal trills and flourishes here and there.

I couldn't have imagined this eclectic selection of virtual sounds working together so well, but it gels extremely well. Kudos.

The phrasing on your chorus is excellent. I think you've got a good one there. I like how your sparse arrangement still feels pretty lively even with the drawn out chords that evoke the sadness.

The synths have a very light, bouncy feel to them. Your vocal delivery is spot on.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2019

I really like your chorus especially. Synth country is my new favourite genre I think!

Nice countryversion of the song. Another unique interpretation of the song. This was a great challenge, and you did a good job as well.

Very intrigued by these upbeat sounding takes on the song. Way to embrace moving on. 😀 I also like your added take on “faking it.” I had a similar ethos - programmed/arped synths, munged and auto-tuned vocals, lifted drum track, etc.

    Nicely done.

Interesting! Much more space in it than in my version. Nice. I enjoyed it.

    Zong Emulsifier: INFUSED!
