I don't know about you, but my Facebook timeline has been full with articles and photos of Greta Thunberg, the 16 year old climate activist from Sweden, and her speeches in Katowice and Davos.
Strangely enough the comments on this amazing girl have not only been positive, she caught a lot of flack for ... basically everything. A research group just found out that there must have been an orchestrated campaign to demean her and her message. And in a way the right-wing jerks succeeded, since everybody was on their talking points about Greta and her background, not about the message she was trying to put out: Fucking end burning fossile fuels now or the world will go to hell.
Here's my tribute to Greta. I turned all the shit talking about her into lyrics.
Recorded February 5th at the music room of a youth club, using a brand new bass guitar with brand new strings which gave me exactly the sound I needed.
She's too young to know anything
She should just go to school again
Why don't she go to therapy
to put up with her anxiety?
Who cares what she has to say
climate changes anyway
She's totally uninteresting
They talk but they're not listening
Her face looks like the epitome
of fetal alcohol syndrome
A weirdo kid who isn't sane
oh, another article again
Her food was wrapped in plastic bags
A total sham and hypocrite
Stop putting her on my TV screen
they look but they refuse to see
Make the planet great again
Make the planet great again
Make the planet great again
Or it will just have to shake us off
She is just a kid that's being used
by environmental lobby groups
A PR tool meant to be cute
that's borderline child abuse
This autistic little brat
should not be put up front like that
A puppet on her parents' strings
They talk but they're not listening
Make the planet GRETAgain
Make this planet great again
Make this planet great again
Greta, we owe better to you

Denying humanity of those with whom we disagree seems to be the only means of discourse these days. Here in the US we had it from ‘both’ sides in our last presidential election. No empathy. No compassion. No ability to hear any truth from ‘them’ whomever ‘they’ are.
The 7/8 is perfect to go along with this declaration of wrong. Such great tones, perfection in multi tracked vocals. Thick as Nutella guitar tones. Everything.

That is a great sounding bass, for sure! New gear makes a heart glad.
Yeah, the whole thing is ridiculous. We're killing our home, drinking poison willingly. And when someone says, "You shouldn't drink that poison, she's the problem. I don't get it, not one little bit.

Great song! The urgency of the music works so well with the content. The 7/8 adds to the tension, but flows really well at the same time. I love the use of feedback.

Love the lyrics and delivery of them ‘climate changes anyway’ and ‘make the planetgreat again’ cool lines! Poor Greta 😞

I phrasing of the world shaking us off is great. "They talk but they're not listening"...ain't it true! Dig the 7/8

Your hook is impeccable. Super into the time signature. I definitely want to hear a few more of the multi-voice lines like "they talk but they're not listening."

Really awesome! You did a great job with this. It gives me the feel of some of the older Cranberries political songs.

Dang. This is awesome. The song itself (musically) has a wonderful 90's rock feel and tempo (that bass sound does sound fab). But I LOVE the lyrics. And such a clever composition with using all of their negative/excuses/observations but then ending each verse with the REAL point. Catchy chorus to top it off. ("Or it will just have to shake us off" ) <-- so poignant.
Thank you for creating this. It's important. And we do need to do something.

This has similar feel like some R.E.M songs and I just remembered how I've been missing that kind of compositions.
I agree, we owe better to Greta.

Rob makes Music great(a) again 😀 Great Song! A little bit Motorpsycho, a bit The Smiths. Very unagitated, not as complicated as my songs. Sounds professional. Now I do some cover versions of your songs 😁
Great lyrics idea!

Cool song with very 90s indie vibes but also appreciate the content and sentiments. So awful how people go after these young warriors. We need to act and yet people prefer their luxuries. Great track all around.

Great groove, very catchy!

That was a beautiful mixture of tones, really great sound! The message is good, has a Randy Newman kind of sarcastic political commentary. Especially liked the Gretagain line!

Woo, wonderful and a message I can get behind 100%. Love that time signature as well. Love "make this planet great again". We must do something and time is quickly running out, so this is a poignant and important message.

This has SUCH a Smiths feel to it! I love the tones of the leads and the bass - I'm a big fan of 80s dream pop/indie.
