So there's a thread in the forums about people listing their pronouns of choice, which I think is a great thing for those that want to do that (I just updated my profile). I should say that I'm a cis male, but certainly an ally of all who have been marginalized for whatever reason. I thought i'd write a song about the subject- hey, this is a songwriting site, right?
Wondering if I should tag this LGBTQ, or not? Kind of an overlapping, not necessarily related thing, perhaps? but some overlap? I did tag this political, as, sadly, fighting for people's rights and dignity is still a thing here in the States (and other places) even in 2019, especially with this current orange disaster of an administration (but I digress...)
Used a regal resonator guitar tuned to open G, a metal slide, and just recorded on the iPhone, live, guitar and vocal, with a little eq and echo added later.
‘He him hers’
‘She her hers’
‘they them theirs’
whatever you prefer
That’s fine
I say all power to you
And your sense of self
Don’t leave your identity
Up on some shelf
Oh no
‘He him hers’
‘She her hers’
‘they them theirs’
whatever you prefer
That’s fine
Another great word set
If I may discuss
And also inclusive
Is ‘we’ and ‘us’
Outranking even
The ‘royal we’
Is ‘all of all of us’
One big family tree
‘He him hers’
‘She her hers’
‘they them theirs’
whatever you prefer
That’s fine

The guitar is soo wonderful. And the message is spot on. Inclusive and welcoming without coming off preachy. Well done.

Had to smile at 'we and us' 😀 A relevant subject in this day (and increasingly partisan political climate), that must be discussed! I can always count on you for some great open tuning guitar - It came out great even on the iPhone!

Guitar is just loooovely. And great groove/tempo. Lyrics are simple and straight forward and need no more explaining. You mean, One tiny detail - your lyrics say "He him hers" but you sing it right 😀

Just one word: fabulous.

I applaud you for approaching the topic with such a great song! I really need to do something in open tuning this year, I just heard two songs in open tuning back to back!
Sometimes people call my dog a boy, if I correct them that it's a girl they don't argue, or ask to see proof... they just start using the pronouns I asked them to.
Why can't humans do that for each other?
Anyway, great song!

Love that slide guitar and the lyrics/delivery are top notch, which is no surprise!

You are so good at combining important messages with good music!

This is so wholesome I love it - It did indeed make me smile. BTW I'm always jealous of people who are good at slide guitar, it's so expressive, but it seems like a whole other skill from regular playing!

That's a great song Mike. Loved the lyrics, the sentiment, the guitar. I know plenty of folks who'd like it too, I'll send 'em a link. (:

Cool song, and not an expected style for the topic. love the slide guitar, excellent vocals also. Love the positive message.

Love the guitar on this -- it's a talking pronoun blues! And the message is so simple and obvious. Just goes to show that the "divisiveness" is mostly between people asking to be treated decently, and bullies who'd rather not. Great song.

There’s something really excellent about this classically bluesy sound to make this super politically relevant statement. I dig it!

Digging the feel with that slide guitar and the speak-singing vocals! And of course, I'm behind the message, and I'm a fan of the lyrics. Especially liking the refrain. It's nice to have something like this in song form. Good work!

Great song, love the message! Wonderful guitar playing as usual, this is a fun one.

Nice write! I always try to use a person's preferred pronouns, but wish it wasn't seen as a divisive issue, myself (cis-white-hetero-male privilege showing, I guess: my trans-daughter with a linguistics degree will undoubtedly school me later).

Came here from the pronoun thread on the forums. Really nice song, I love the lyrics, the message and the slide guitar!

All power to you awoke human being of Earth. Very nice playing throughout and very nice sweet voice too. We need more queer friendly cis male straights. Thank you.
