Billy Sea joined me with his melody and vocals for this, and I'm so happy that he did! Thank you, Billy!!
The prompt was "ghostly or spirits". I found myself following what turned out to be a funeral procession led by horses and a mariachi band the other day. I couldn’t tell that was what it was until I saw a white hearse at a gate which either led into a churchyard or a graveyard. I couldn’t tell which. There was someone on the wall, watching. That all came to mind with the prompt. Mexican funerals are celebrations of life, often with a Mariachi band leading the way, sometimes playing into the night. It's a very different way of looking at death, but they do believe that they will all meet on the other side 😀
The music sounds so lively
Trumpets and guitars
And the hooves of dancing horses keeping time
I feel compelled to follow
It can’t be very far
And as I walk I hear the church bells chime.
Men and women walking,
And little children too.
I wonder what on earth it all can mean.
I really can’t see faces as I follow far behind
Taking in the whole intriguing scene.
The street begins to narrow
As I walk on cobblestone
And it turns into a gate I cannot see
But across from me I notice
Upon the graveyard wall
A ghostly figure turns and looks at me
It appears as if he’s waiting
As the strains of music fade
For someone he has missed for oh so long
To finally come and join him,
Step from the hearse and join him,
To dance again to that mariachi song
