So this is my exploration of the 2nd Messiaen mode, the octatonic scale.
Having just done a guitar-heavy piece, I opted for a mixture of strings and mellotron VSTs, and then chucking some guitars and bass on top.
This was oddly a pain to work with, again because when I use these modes I try to highlight their unique harmonic content. The octatonic is pretty common and something I've unintentionally used a bit previously, but for whatever reason I struggled until I got the basic idea of highlighting the chromaticism alongside the whole tones, giving it a different feel from the previous track.
Anyway, it ended up with a bit of a Tangerine Dream vibe at the start, which is nice, and I think the mix of strings and mellotron work well together.
