I scribbled a couple of lines yesterday, and today I fleshed it out, with some research on Ozymandias, the Greeks, and the psychology of mortality. Stuff like that.
I had low expectations for this song I spent and afternoon and an evening on, but I’m pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out. I like it.
This is my "SM57 Challenge" song. Guitar and vocal were recorded with the same mic, an EV dynamic mic (RE18) that's very ancient and crusty that I got from a guitar shop for $40 because they thought it looked pretty rough. I plugged it straight into the inputs of my MOTU interface, no expensive preamps, compressors or what have you.
Agamemnon sailed the world
searching for one singular pearl
when he found the truth at last
it was the words "This, too, shall pass"
This too shall pass
not even the good times last
this too shall pass
the ephemeral nature of our lives
and of every being of all times
if it's true that nothing lasts
what's the point of doing everything fast
I thought we had forever and a day
but forever slipped away
on the darkest day of our lives
the sun goes down, but it will rise
