This song came out of a random song name generator. I thought 'The Holy 29' sound like a song about a posse of priests hunting down criminals on the run in the Old West, set to a pseudo-Johnny Cash spaghetti Western tune. So that's what I did..
I recorded this on a little Boss Micro BR, still getting to grips with the mastering so excuse the sudden end..
When they ride into town
Men run and hide
And take a final swig of wine
For they all know that for the wicked and the bad
There's no hidin' from the Holy 29
You can see them from afar
In their robes of white
Looking so righteous and fine
And if you've killed a man
You'd better start to pray
For here comes those Holy 29!
They shot down Tom Smith
And put him in his grave
For slaying a widow's son
And men fear to tell
What became of Johnny Bell
Who took the maidenhead of Billy Lee
From where they came
Or why they do what they do
They're a legend from 'Frisco to Abilene
For they are so brave and so true!
So when that holy posse
Comes to town
You'd better hope you've paid your dues
Cos if you stole a cow
Or took the Lord's name in vain
My friend, you know they're coming from you.
