So I started FAWM with absolutely zero ideas of what to do, particularly as I'm still working on a fair few pieces from last year's FAWM turning it into an album proper.
So the first few FAWM tracks are likely going to be guided by Olivier Messiaen's Modes of Limited Transposition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modes_o...
I'll try and see what using these modes help me conjure up.
This piece is in the first mode, which luckily is something I'm incredibly familiar with: the whole tone scale. As a King Crimson fanatic, I live and breathe in this mode already, but I tried to write something that emphasised the harmonic content unique to it.
In the middle of the piece I end up doing a Fracture-like perpetuo-moto section (i.e. endless difficult picking). The take you hear was the best one I could do before my arm started to seize up.
It's all in 6/8 until the perpetuo moto, where on top of endless picking I decide to throw random bars of 3/8 in because I'm a masochist.
