The idea for this song came to me in church a few months ago. It came that way sometimes songs do, where you know it's almost fully formed at inception- I put it on hold for February and it poured out when I sat down to write it.
It's a sad song- the announcement in church was for prayers for the family of a 12 year old girl who had committed suicide.
The harmony vocals are more stand-ins for what I imagine to be other instrumentation- since my best instrument is my voice, I think it gives a sense - but listening to the recording it might seem a little abrupt and maybe simplicity would be better here.
What can it mean?
You’re on the other side of me… now
Someone treated you mean
But nobody’s hands are clean … now
And where you are … now
You feel no pain
But where we are now... We do
And you’re too far.. Now
And we remain
With a scar in the shape of you
If I could show how you were seen
I’d turn back time if I knew… how
