Lyrics

Mama
by Kim Beggs
Key C (C and G only)

I’m gonna grow up to be a star
I’m gonna make us lots of money
I’m gonna take us all over the world Mama
Mama you’re gonna be so proud of me

First I’m gonna learn to sing
Then I’m gonna learn to pick
Then I’m gonna write a hit song mama
Mama - why you laughing at me?

I’m gonna grow up to be a star
I’m gonna make us lots of money
I’m gonna take us all over the world Mama
Mama you’re gonna be so proud of me

whistle break

I’m all grown up now and theres trouble
I can’t rhyme or hold a tune
I can’t seem to learn that F-ing chord mama
Mama - I remember you smiling at me

But I keep on strumming, I keep whistling
I hear there ain’t no money in music
I’ll make songs til I die mama
Mama I know you’d be so proud of me

I love how this song is, for
me, about something entirely other than what the main focus of the lyrics is. I remember, Mama!

Beauty, Kim! Love the sentiment and the harmonies.

thanks for your note Kimmy. Any more detailed feedback totally welcome! I love this one, Mama. Funny irony, and whistling. Ha!

  • @standup  2 weeks

    The whistle break is fantastic.

To me this is like a Carter family tune, if they weren't actually very good.

Well. There ain't no money in music for most of us. I hope you make a good part of your living on this. But, yeah, most of us are semi-talented and doing this for our own reasons.

Which is what I hear in this song.

    Oh I miss(le) yer whistle . 🌟🙌🏼

Super sweet.. with a tear or two. The "F-ing chord" is a great inside joke and the last line.. that's why I love listening to good songs.

aw so sweet! that last verse gave me goosebumps and made me let out an aw!, really really lovely and i love a bit of whistling. spot on delivery and perfectly compact storytelling. love it well done, keep strumming and whistling 😀

Yay. Kim has come to play. That is the way you write a folk song. Would this be 2 chords... and the truth?

  • @resonut123 2 weeks

    Your Mama must be proud.
Nice old tyme feel and really dug the whistling too. Enjoyed the listen.

  • @tangle  2 weeks

Really like this. It made me laugh and want to sing along. 😀

  • @ballyhoot 2 weeks

Really enjoyed this little folk tune. Nice harmony, simple but effective guitar accompaniment. Sweet and a little sad for some reason. And I agree about that F-ing chord. Ugh. I have a lot of those..... 😞 😀

  • @ticketpeople 2 weeks

idk if its on my end, but the song doesnt play, just so you know!
