Liner Notes

Jon sez:
UPDATE 4 March : Got the vocals done! @cynthiawolff @nancyrost @cts @marthie ...
Cynthia's track inspired me to write some words in Venezuelan slang about my old beach hangout. Finally had time for the vocal track. This was fun!

Cynthia sez:
Woke up from the other side of the big pond and unbeknownst to me, found that Jon had published this..
Made my day and so happy it came about...thank you Jon
For your fabulous contributions and turning this into such a tasty song.

Lyrics

Sábado temprano en la mañanita
Vámonos mami pa la playita
Rancho Grande, Estado Aragua

“So me güere no tere,
So me güere no tere…”

Bailando salsa al son de Tito
Yuca, guasacaca y pescao frito
Gozándome más que mono con huevo
¡Cónchale, chamo! Aquí me quedo.

Que los sifrinos vayan:
“So-me güere no tere,
So-me güere no tere…”. ¡Epa!

---
Saturday early in the morning
Come on, babe, let's go to the beach
Rancho Grande... (national park and beach names)

Lying here in my hammock
With lemonade moistening my lips
Chipi-chipi (tiny clams) with lemon and coconut sweets
There's no boss to get me into a mess.

Let the snobs go: "Somewhere not here" (in bad English)**

Dancing salsa to the sound of Tito
Yuca, green sauce, and fried fish
Having more fun than a monkey with an egg
Wow, dude! I'm staying here.

Let the snobs go: "Somewhere not here".

** I should explain this. "Sifrino" is Venezuelan slang for a snob, someone who thinks they're better than the working classes, and who might imagine (among other things) that speaking English makes them better than everyone. So here the singer is mocking that.

Love the horns you have added @jonmeta to Cynthia’s original track. Your lyrics and vocals have definitely done justice to her lovely composition. I really enjoyed the almost conversational rhythm and flow of your lyrics, channeling a funky kind of Manu Chao vibe into the whole thing, especially with those sweet harmonies in the latter half of the song. Niiiiiiiice!

That track is really good, definitely creates the rich atmosphere, great lyric, glad you worked through to finishing it, I really enjoyed it!!

  • @sherrycanary  5 weeks

I can picture myself outside on a summer night, dancing.
    Love this beat.
    Definitely has that post-covid groove.
Everyone is so happy and chill.
The music has a feeling of being in a place that hasn't yet been discovered by the Sifrinos. The lyrics tell that story well.
I am so glad you two got to collaborate.
Thank's for taking me to this place!~

What a lovely song! It has such an authentic tropical groove! So fun to listen to! I enjoyed reading the English lyrics as I listened! Such a rich description in these words! I could smell the sea, feel the heat, taste the lemonade!

Awesome song and a great collaboration!

Fun! I haven't a clue what you are saying, but it makes me want to get up and dance. Though if you saw me dance, you might decide inspiring me to do so was a big mistake. 😀

It definitely has that Latin feel, very impressive. You are a multi-dimensional writer, Jon!

  • @artie 6 weeks

Really enjoying this song! The rhythm, the textures, the vocals... Great collab guys!

Oh this is really wonderful! I love the happy tropical salsa vibe of the music and wonderful delivery of the lyrics. Transports me to a magical island kind of place and makes me smile. I enjoyed reading about the lyrics too!

  • @audrey  7 weeks

Oh, this puts me in the mood for a beach holiday. Love this.

Great collab! Great lyric, great vibe: dead solid perfect.

  • @wobbiewobbit  7 weeks

you had me at bar 1. such a sunny groove. certainly lives up to the tropical tag. it makes me want to throw the curtains open and let the sunshine in, but it is grey sunrise here in london!

  • @richie123  7 weeks

Ah that intro just brought me right in. I love the vibes. Hips swerving indeed. We need a nice female R&B vocal a la Sade to bring this home. I think you've got the same vibraphone-type instrument going on here as I used one of my tunes (Traveler) and I just love hearing those tones.

  • @cts  7 weeks

Well yeah - it certainly demands a bit of the hips swerving and wiggling just a little bit (truthfully A LOT). I was a little let down that I didn't hear any vocals to go along with this fine production. Let me know when that happens. It's gonna happen, right?

  • @elesimo  7 weeks

So good, this had me dancing! The production is solid!

  • @marthie 7 weeks

What fun reading your lyrics and it goes so well with the festive feel of the music. Would love to hear it when it is complete

  • @phylo  7 weeks

Love the Latin rhythms here. A fine collaboration.

  • @nancyrost  7 weeks

Wow, this is such a cool rhythmic feel. Not knowing, I would have said Afropop. Those horns and guitar licks are especially tasty.
Give me a shout when you record the vocals - I wanna hear.

  • @feb21sundari 7 weeks

Marvelous lively music... so curious to hear the vocals inside...

  • @kadmad202  7 weeks

The music and lyrics are here, I say add the vocals! Totally legit. Great vibe! I'm still in bed listening to this on my phone, but I'm dancing in my head 😊

  • @cynthiawolff  7 weeks

Wow Jon! What a pleasant surprise to wake up too!!
Thanks so very much to take the time out to collab with me..
I would love to hear you finish this.
Mucho gracias amigo..till we meet again xxc

  • @alboe 7 weeks

Ah, as I was reading the liner notes I thought “that’s a pretty long intro” and then I read the last sentence.
You can still update this demo if you decide to sing it anyway? As nice as this already sounds I would love to hear it with vocals.

  • @karlsburg25  7 weeks

Ah it has been such a pleasure to hear you fly with your creations Cynthia and those horns are simply exquisite . Again you guys making me want to be at the beach . Woohoo
