My original notes for this song came from the prompt for the Song Skirmish on Feb 20 11am ET Orpheus/Gift or Power of Music.
Today I worked it into some rhyming lyrics and posted (2/28) lyrics only. Also needs a chorus or refrain with the title in it. Loosely based on my personal life - all these people are me.
A baby grows up with music in the home
Daddy plays ragtime piano, uke and comb,
Classical albums and the Broadway stage,
Mommy's belting out tunes from baby's early age.
A nine year old girl is banging out her scales
The recitals are scary, she hates to fail.
But the fundamentals stick with her and linger
Now she delights in having Mozart in her fingers.
A young teen finds an old guitar tucked away,
with a case full of chord charts, that no one plays.
Gets some sheet music and finds he has a good ear
He teaches himself a hobby he then has for years.
A young woman graduating high school soon
loves to go off and write songs in her room.
She dares to compete and performs her own song.
She wins "best talent" and it drives her career along.
A guy's first job's at a family campground.
The bonfire's lit and the campers come 'round.
He leads them in oldies and novelty tunes.
They all laugh together, as the young man croons.
A mid-life crisis - no LIFE and all MID.
She recalls so much joy when she sang as a kid.
She looks up a community Messiah Sing
Ends up joining the choir and back comes her zing.
