I’m very tired and this song is rough and ready as a result. I have opted against bouncing as it produces too much hiss so have been singing and playing instruments into one track and it means both are sub par. I wanted to mess with structure, and the quick move to a time change is an attempt to keep it fresh. I don’t think the transition works particularly at the moment, it did work a few times I played it but not when I had to lay it down live all the way through. I guess I’ll fix it if it’s worth it later.
Lyrically it’s about how the truth of a situation can be viewed differently if you’re outside of a situation. How the person experiencing their own life can feel different to how other people think it is happening. And also how time isn’t a solid thing and can be revisited at a hundred moments during the day. A song, an advert or a place can whizz you back in time so that yesterday become today (in a way).
I wanted to get across that sometimes you have to own situations, and maybe even display them and take the scar with you. So that’s the ‘wear it like a flower in your lapel’ line, success through failure.
The bridge (?) is a list of elements of both good and bad luck and I’ve tried to cover my searching for melody with a kind of Syd Barrett delivery - which I quite enjoy, although I did accidentally record over the start of the effect laden track after I forgot to pause it too late when recording a guitar on the same track. Oh well, the trials of the 4 track!
I do think this could be good, but needs more work, who knows if it will get it. I wasn’t sure whether to call it Lucky Man Without because of the Verve song, but maybe I like the slight reference and meaning it adds to the song.

I, I , I, I don’t know what get into you
Like the devil got into you
Like they get into me
And my my my I sense trouble on my doorstep
A time that don’t come correct
Is just outside the wall
People say there’s no escaping it
Got to wear it like a flower in your lapel
People say I’m a lucky man
Well that’s true
Shoulders curve from the weight of it
Decoration from a forgotten battle
People say I’m a lucky man without you
Evading black cat and broken mirrors
I don’t run with scissors
Red lanterns mark my door
Opened with a triangular key
8 golden spokes on my wheel
An axe in your back for success
I, I, I, I don’t know what I’m going to do
A spell has fallen over you
And cast me into dark
How time flies
It seems like only yesterday
And it’s still only yesterday
If I choose it to be
Don’t wish on shooting stars (don't waste your wish on shooting stars)
They are just dying meteors
