And at last, I reach song 14... and the original idea I'd had, wasn't giving, so I went with the only alternative which waved tentatively in my eyeline: another song in the "English alt-folk" vein I've been exploring this FAWM.
I had in mind a slightly more "ornate" arrangement (a couple more guitars, maybe a mandolin, etc.), but it was the final day of the FAWM challenge, and frankly I just wanted to put this one out there and collapse face-down just the other side of the finish-line 😀 Therefore, this demo is fairly straightforward: two vocals, acoustic guitar (Faith Saturn) and ukulele (Flight TUS35), and recorded on my TASCAM DP-006 digital four-track "pocketstudio". Finished off in Grand Finale and Twisted Wave on my iPhone.
Well done to my fellow FAWM-ers in 2021, and I'll do my best to catch up on more of your songs in the next few weeks!
Walked the dog early Sunday morning
Past the church, and I thought of going in
By the gate, with a view of the village green
But the lockdown hasn’t yet been lifted
Bolted door made it pretty clear
So we stayed in the churchyard where we’d been
The cards of spring were calling all around
Purple, yellow crocuses on every mound
Daffodils announce that winter’s moving on
The planet never tires of always turning
Not a thought to those who fall behind
We looked away, and the year is quarter-gone
For a moment I could feel you calling
Even though I’m standing here alone
Then I realised you were ringing on the phone
Thankful that we lived another year
The smallest mercies give us grateful hearts
Nearly lunchtime, so the dog and I headed home
