Very last one for this incredibly productive FAWM.
I sat down last night with the guitar, and without any thinking whatsoever, just started playing power chords - and the opening riff appeared, exactly as you hear it in the demo.
'Oh bugger,' I thought. 'Now I have to write yet another song...'
Pieced together the track - decided to go as hard-out as I could imagine, micing up the amp and using my Siamese Dream op-amp Big Muff Pi pedal... then it was my 2yo's bedtime, so halfway through recording that intense E-string riff that kicks in halfway through, had to turn everything down to a whisper... luckily my mic is very directional, so there's not too much pick-hitting-the-strings noise... but yes, the second half of that entire section is recorded at lullaby volumes. Thank god for compression and tape emulation to get it sounding dirty and manly again, haha!
Then, as I was putting it together, my city was put into lockdown - meaning my initial plan of using NZ's unique time zone to record the vocals on Monday fell apart. The house will be full of family.
So... tonight I wrote the lyrics, worked out the melody, and programmed it into a synth instead. So here's the song, an instrumental version with a basic synth where my voice should be. You'll notice the tone of the synth changes at one point - that's where the actual synth goes. The rest is filling in for the vocal.
The lyrics are below. It's about how even in dinosaur times, and likely in future times, there will be rapacious capitalists.

if we're gonna fight off this rock
we've gotta get along, not fight
so stop looking so tasty
if we're gonna get off this rock
we've gotta fix climate change
i just wanna see you driving
a car you can't afford
if we're gonna annex that rock
we're gonna need pioneers
to boldly go where i won't
