I came up with the main guitar part on the 19th and knew I wanted something in the shoegaze category, but wasn't sure what to add. I recorded the clean electric guitar (in stereo) through my Peavey Stereo Chorus and added a 12 string acoustic to give it shimmer, but then didn't like any of the louder guitars I tried to add. I sat down at the drumkit the next day and the drums sounded great, but still no more ideas for the guitars. It sat for a week while I did lots of other things.
Now that I have have most things at a good spot, I came back to it, and everything fell into place. I came up with the harmonic line that I loved and then a louder riff that played off of that. Maybe a guitar swell? YES! Guitar number four, but I still heard one more part to fill it out and added a fifth electric guitar. 😀
Bass was easy and instead of using a pre-amp, I ran it right into my Traynor YBA-1 bass amp and mic'd the cabinet speaker for a nice old school tone.
Oh and the name? The WAV form looked like two earth core drills to me, haha.
So I don't forget what I did:
Eastwood Surfcaster into a late 80's Peavey Stereo Chorus 400 (just an AMAZING clean amp)
Agile AL-3100 Les Paul into a Traynor YBA-1
Epiphone Les Paul Trad Pro into the YBA-1 and then the Stereo Chorus
Tacoma DM912 acoustic 12 string
Harley Benton P bass into the YBA-1 with CAD bass drum mic.
1970's Ludwig Hollywood drumkit. (pawn shop find!)
Not from me - If you have ideas, let me know, but I'll be particular about versions of this one. 😀
