For everyone who has lost someone they love to Q
Why do you venture so far from the shore?
Our words you don’t hear and our cries you ignore,
As ever around you the waves crash and roar,
And your hope is a blaze in your eyes.
Rip tide tears you away
As your friends on the shore have to watch in dismay.
What can we do at the end of the day
As you drown in an ocean of lies?
Spurred by the memories of fish you have caught
More treasures, and monsters and marvels you sought;
Pearls are possible; mermaids are not,
And the breakers continue to rise.
Your friends pull you back, we have argued and pled;
As you push us away, you move deeper instead.
Before you draw breath you’ll be over your head,
Down where the lone swimmer dies.
You’re dazzled by rumors of war and renown.
That Jesus has offered your master a crown.
If we swim out to fetch you, you’ll just pull us down
Where the undertow tickles and pries.
