I try to read through the Bible every year. Sometimes I make it through, sometimes i don’t. 2020 was a year I didn’t finish. This year, I’m following a plan that does a little Old Testament, a little New Testament, a little proverbs and a little psalms each day. I finished reading the book of Job about a week ago and the very end it says Job died full of years. That phrase has stuck in my mind as a potential song, and a potential life goal. I decided to lay it to lyrics tonight.
this one , when I record it - I hear it as a kind of 80’s sounding country song, and. Every time I use the word ‘die’, the music will come to a full stop. So in that sense it will be a week three challenge. but then I will also vary the number of beats of rest before I pick it back up and that will make it a week 4 challenge as well. I have only sung it in my head so far, and some of the lines might take an extra beat or so, and that could make it a week 4 challenge song as well.

Quite long ago, just how long unknown,
lived a so called blameless man. A righteous man.
He had found favor with his Maker.
This righteous man; upright and righteous man.
The devil claimed it so, that this man Job,
was a protected man, just a bless-ed man.
And so the Maker gave the devil a wager
to find fault with the man, find a fault in the man.
Satan took up the wager, and began to savor,
how to bring down the man, cooked up a plan.
Killed all the life, except Job’s wife,
That meant much to the man, the blameless man.
then lays him out, with sores all about
His whole body and hands, the entire man.
Job’s wife cries, “Curse God and die”
to the blameless man, this upright man.
He never takes up the chance to doubt God’s plan
Doesn’t know that Satan tried to interfere.
He ends up more blessed than the older days,
and when he dies.....he’s full of years.
Along comes another righteous man, his name Abraham
a very faithful man, yes a faithful man.
tested with his long awaited son,
promised to this man, singular faithful man.
Believes God’s promise to the very end, almost Isaac’s end,
yes Isaac’s end.
but God interferes and then provides a ram, an unfortunate ram,
most unfortunate ram.
Abraham’s seed extends throughout the land, to every land, yes every land.
Sons of this faithful man; this faithful man.
He never takes up the chance to doubt God’s plan.
Doesn’t know the steps and shows no fear.
He ends up more blessed than his younger days.
And when he dies....he’s full of years
I want to live a life that is full of years.
Years that are full of hope not of fear.
be counted among the Jobs and Isaacs and Abrahams
To have it said he died full of years.
I have already had some doubts about God’s plan.
I don’t know the steps and that brings some fear.
But He’s already blessed me more than I deserve.
And when I die....I’ll be full of years.
