Where's the Gravy? [FAWM 21]

by @daveyboy103  @blindkiwi

1 week   the gravy song

Liner Notes

By far the simplest song and arrangement I have written and done this FAWM.

I loved the comedic and tragic aspects of the lyrics and sometimes you just run with it.

The MO of religions, secular or otherwise for time immemorial. Concentrate on the next life while we shag you up the a**e in this one. I know that we share that view which made this an obvious choice for a collab for me.

Great alternate arrangement by @headfirstonly here:

Lyrics

They say a rich man has no path into heaven
"They" being the operative word
Be content with your lot
You will win when you rot
Doesn't it sound so absurd

So come feast on my grand plate of virtue
Warm yourself with my comfortable lies
Why worry about health
When one heals thyself
You’ll be a winner as soon as you die, you die
A winner as soon as you… DIE

Look at those wonderful palaces
where the doomed and unfortunate reside
Silk sheets on their beds
Gold crowns on their heads
And not a care for how they’ll be fried

Yes it’s fun to sleep with your neighbour
Who doesn’t like an extra slice of pie
But why would you want
To be happy now
If you miss all the fun when you die

So come feast on my grand plate of virtue
Warm yourself with my comfortable lies
Why worry about health
When one heals thyself
You’ll be a winner as soon as you die, you die
A winner as soon as you… DIE

Oh.....Life is a bonus
when you’re sanctimonious
You’ll be a winner as soon as you die, you die
A winner as soon as you… DIE

I'm listening to this just after hearing @headfirstonly 's version - I like that on this one the piano seems like it is doing the heavy lifting, moving the song forward. You both sing it very well... this version is like someone playing a Steinway on stage in a spotlight while singing, which I think maybe adds some irony. The Pied Piano Player singing us into sanctimony.

Listened to @headfirstonly ’s version so I had to check out the original as well.
Excellent songwriting this, totally enjoyed the listen.

I agreed with @headfirstonly i hear a hint of Roger. and lyrics back that up. great lines:
    'To be happy now'
'If you miss all the fun when you die'

Oh, this is vicious, and absolutely bang on target. And "Life is a bonus / when you’re sanctimonious" is without doubt the finest couplet I have read so far this FAWM. It had me roaring with laughter.

I can't help but hear this performed by Roger Waters in his most sarcastic and vituperative tone of voice. And to be fair, this rendition is 95% of the way there, complete with the obligatory orchestral backing. Splendid stuff, guys.

Hahaha, nicely done and impressively quick. The soft piano gives it the hymnal reverence (or is that irreverence) it deserves 😀 Thank you.
