there is no bo'om
of the barrel in fa'wm
i've fawmed some pretty weak "songs" over the years.
no idea has been too flimsy to moosh into something that could be loosely called a song.
this was a quick chorus, and then i forced myself to write a couple verses around it --- that was many days ago.
since i force-fawmed a sloppy song-worth of lyrics, of course i was going to record it.
but mostly i used this as a vehicle to try some time-lapse possibilities. oh, where, oh, where has tim wille gone? back when he introduced his feasts -- where he'd write and record all 14 songs in one sitting, filming or time-lapsing the whole thing -- i did that several times.
maybe 2009, 2012, 2013...
thought about it a couple times since then, but never did it.
so i wanted to do it this past weekend.
but i realized some limits of my audiovisual equipment.
i used to have access to lots of laptops.
now i have one laptop and one cheap android phone with a small memory.
first i thought i could simultaneously use my garageband while also recording video or time-lapse photos with my laptop... but my experiments were completely unsuccessful.
so this was my first go using my phone for the video. but due to the memory issue, i was time-lapsing at one picture every 2 seconds. that will be okay for really big time compressions, but it's pretty jerky for the ~20 minutes i used for this recording.
i don't know how many minutes of video i can actually take on my phone, but it's not much, and it would mean interrupting a feast far too often. so i'll use the time-lapse on the phone with a picture every half-second (very limited choices on this phone). and i hope to feel frisky enough over the weekend for a filmed feast.
as for this song...
i just time-lapsed the process of recording the guitar, vocals, banjolele, and harmonica.
then i fit the entire time-lapse to the song length.
and for no good reason, i tried to also fit each instrument bit to the song length.
mighta been kinda cool to have the standard split-screen of overdubs alongside the time-lapse of the whole process. but the lapsiness doesn't make for very good matchups of the video parts. i didn't even try.
and, of course, the song was done without ever having really played through it or sung it. so it's pretty ugly.
in the land of the hot wind
through the thin greying hair
when the smell’s not putrescent
it lingers long in the air
where the waters are muddy
and the story’s unclear
can’t trust anybody
or the anti-veneer
an untruth machine
but also a moron
and the lands between
are full-on fertile, fungal, and green
hear the chirp of the toadies
and the malingering heirs
see the practiced aversion
to any well-earned stares
where the songs are infectious
gateway siren sounds
anthems and anathemata
and nothing’s out of bounds
i’ll pass through here again
not if i can help it
but it’s beyond my ken
it’s a polished shitshow in the impclowns’ den
