I was working on another song tonight where the lyrics weren't happening. So this song came out of that procrastination.
I got inspired by an Alex Metric track. His was a house track with some spoken word. So I thought, "I'll use a Ram Dass talk and make that the vocal!" I chopped up a talk and left in the most potent bits. Here's the full speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C22JVkCWMvw.
I love Ram Dass. He's one of my favorite spiritual teachers. I've been listening to his podcast a ton during the pandemic.
For the music I laid down the bass part and then layered a bunch of arpeggiators on top. I found another breakbeat sample from the ones my cousin gave me and built a beat on top of that. Those breakbeats fill up the sound so much.
Then I found that Logic now has this plugin called Remix FX. It let's you do DJ type sounds on the fly. I had so much fun making this track. I want to do more of this. It brings me a lot of joy making this kind of music. Also nice to get a break from writing lyrics and singing.
Truth waits for eyes unclouded by longing
Right where you are, you have to allow it to be
You have to make the distinction between involvement and attachment
What you see in the world is so much the creation of your mind from moment to moment
You’re creating it
You are the creator creating
Until you can allow, you are not released from it
Often people say to me I’m going to give up ice cream because I want God
Then they say would give me some teachings
And I would say eat more ice cream
It horrifies me to recognize how much somebody who starts out full of intellect, full of ego, full of greed, full of desire, full of anger and judgment
And then goes through suffering and more suffering and more suffering, and you watch them, under certain conditions open like a lotus flower
And you see the absolutely radiant spirit and you think my God could it be that suffering was grace
You’d never give them the suffering, you’d lever lay it on them
But it’s the way it is, and you see it burning and purifying and doing something to some people
There comes a time when that place in us that is the creative spark
The creator, the awareness, the isness
Starts to surface not only in crises
Not only when you’re going over the cliff in an automobile
Not only at the moment of orgasm
Not only in the deepest meditation
But as you’re walking down the street
It’s very strange to walk down the street and be in love with the universe and do nothing about it but just be an impeccable warrior within whatever form you happen to be in
