Finally broke out the Epiphone Artcore hollow-body electric. This usually happens around the 15th of February.
A few years ago I decided to read all of Dickens's major novels. Started with Bleak House (still my favourite, with David Copperfield a close second) but then read the rest in the order Dickens wrote them. So now I'm in the middle of the last complete one, Our Mutual Friend. Mr. Noddy Boffin is a good natured, simple soul who inherits a great deal of money and isn't sure what to do with it because he doesn't want anything. Dickens's descriptions of the money-grubbers knocking at his door and working their way into his life are hilarious and not far removed from reality.
So that's it. This is an inconsequential song that I had a lot of fun making. I stole my own bridge from “Fruitcake”.
Hey-yay-yay Mr Boffin, you’re the toast of the town.
They all think there’s enough of it to go around.
All these punters gonna waste your time.
That is why I had to be the first in line.
Hey-yay-yay Mr Boffin, you’re a fortunate man
I only need thirty minutes to explain my plan.
All it takes is a modest stash
I’ll be the brains; Boffin, you put up the cash
Hey! Would I tell you to do anything rash?
It must be a burden but I wouldn’t know
I don’t wanna keep you if you need to go
I just gotta share this opportunity
You won’t be sorry that you listened to me.
Hey-yay-yay Mr Boffin, you’re the salt of the earth
Nobody else but me sees what you’re worth
You got the means, and I really mean it
You need a partner like me who’s seen it… all
I just need a number where you’ll answer my call.
Hey would I tell you to do anything rash?
