It seems Ronald Reagan was a cheerleader and did stand up comedy. Well he was certainly the cheerleader for the Milton Friedmann Doctrine and if he was funny, the jokes on us who have had to survive the changes his legacy brought about.
Tenor Ukulele- Voice
..... and Band in a Box on backing track
Here is a different perspective on the Reagan years than many Americans (with rose-tinted glasses) have.
PS I think I have self plagiarised the melody for this one. But I can't remember which of my songs I've nicked it from. 😁
If you (D) seek the root cause of
Our di(G)vision, hate and (D) fears
(A) Look no further back than
The (G) Reagan-Thatcher (D) years
Be(G)hind that jovial giant was a truly evil plan
The (D)dream of a fanatic called Milton Friedman
His (G)trickledown vision, how could anyone fall for that crap?
Between the (A)rich and the poor it has only widened the gap
Every President since has bowed to the monetarist god
A dogma written into law that no-one thinks odd
Anyone decrying it is said to be a lunatic
And pilloried in the press, as a heretic
For over forty years this experiment has been tried
And all it's done has been to increase the divide
"There's no alternative!" right-wing spin-doctors cry
And the press barons all shore up that loathsome lie
(Bm)"Tear down that wall!" he cried (D)standing in Berlin
While (Bm)founding a doctrine that would (D)wall more people (A)in
His (Bm) bride in hate claimed "society doesn't ex(A)ist"
While (G)crushing the unions, the only ones left who'd res(A)ist
Fanatics don't listen to reason we see now that's plain
Belief trumps truth again and again and again
Climate crisis is staring us in the face
We must ditch this doctrine that threatens the human race
