W2: Do Re Mi

Liner Notes

My unnecessarily very elaborate process to create a slothcore composition using automated tools.
I wanted to combine exploring all 7 modes with the do re mi and slothcore challenges. Slothcore challenge: https://fawm.org/forums/topic/11434/#c241149

Constraints: Walk Through the Circle of 5ths through all 7 modes from C to C 2 bars each at 35 bpm. Chords for modes taken from Guitar World Modes Lesson https://www.guitarlessonworld.com/lessons/modes/

Plug into BIAB with . _Chillout Style

Generate melody based on Do Re Mi of the tonic of the modal chord using random sequence generator. http://www.dave-reed.com/Nifty/randSeq.html

Plug resulting “melody into musescore and convert to midi.

Synth Preset for “melody Surge Synth: Bloom Fred Cormier.

Put the whole mess together in reaper and cross fingers.

Number of random letter sequences to generate: 30
Length of each random letter sequence: 8 (ie eighth notes)
Letters to choose from: drm0
d (do) r(re) m(mi) 0(rest)
* Treat multiples of a note as note of greater duration. Ie d= eighth note dd= quarter ddd=dotted quarter

I've listened to this a few times, but I always forget to comment! It's lovely, and I love your process. 😀

That simple melody, I kept expecting it to break into Happy Birthday. Very gentle, I'll bet the sloths are rockin' to it.

Well this is odd! Just my opinion, perhaps, but this sounded like lullaby music from the other side! You might hear this in an elevator just as you lose consciousness! Really original concept though, kind of like Hammond organ slothcore.

  • @joefahey  2 weeks

Sean, you’ve perfectly captured the exact way I feel much of the time in this last year. Bravo!

All that great panning is making me picture a sloth ice skating at a very slow pace, but being thrilled by the exhilaration of such speeds! 🤣 The melody is quite enchanting!

  • @heliosonorous 2 weeks

Nicely done, this has the feel of sloth core at a slow moving nightclub where all the people in the crowd are slothing around and just chilling to the cool tunes.

  • @freddie13 2 weeks

Great job..really sets the mood for a sloth..

  • @mikehex  2 weeks

I found this simultaneously highly enjoyable and vaguely unsettling. Well done!

  • @bradbrubaker  2 weeks

All the stuff going on in the background feels like the sloth snoring. Meanwhile the foreground piece is the sloth dreaming of movement at a normal pace through a candyland of wonderous sloth treats.

  • @moonraccoon  2 weeks

I must investigate the slothcore style before listening 😉

  • @dragondreams  2 weeks

I REALLY like this! And I totally get the "sloth" feeling with that "side-to-side shuffling" going on in the backing. This has really opened my eyes! 😉
