Liner Notes

It's pancake day on Tuesday and I wanted a pancake song to sing for my Kindergarten class. Here it is.

As I was recording, my wife started singing the chorus from the kitchen. That is a very good sign.

Lyrics

What do you want on your pancakes © Sean McGaughey Feb. 13 , 2021

Chorus
What do you want on your pancakes?

on your pancakes, on your pancakes

What do you want on your pancakes?

on your pancakes today?

V1

Please pass the butter and maple syrup

The salty and sweet taste so great

I watch them pour down the top of my pancakes

And sponge every drop off the plate

V2
Dad likes his pancakes with bacon and eggs

The gooey yellow yolks look so gross.

But Dad puts a bit of each on his fork

He says that’s how he likes them the most.

V3

Mom likes to spread them with strawberry jam

For her sticky warm breakfast treat

She says that’s the way that Grandma taught her

They’re her two favorite foods to eat.

V4:
I’d like some whipped cream and chocolate chips.

Candy for breakfast is great.

Please pass another three pancakes to me.

I will eat every one on my plate.

Hi, @ductapeguy ! What a great song! And, I’m betting your students will love singing what they want on their pancakes, for a classic substitution song. Bravo!

I love that count-in, and yeah if the wife is singing that's a great sign. I'm for some reason hungry now though, and will probably be humming this frustratingly catchy tune while whipping up some batter! hahaha

"One take is all it takes" is the best way to count off a song, lol! I really enjoyed the playful lyrics, this sounds like it could be a fun bonus track from a mid 60s Beach Boys or Beatles album!

You just made my Valentines Day! Although for me it was waffles and peanut butter. Great sing a long for the kids. I might need to try this on the Grands.

That's too catchy for its own good 😀 Hard to believe, but I hated maple syrup as a child, and would only eat pancakes with ketchup. I've tried to eat 'em with ketchup in adulthood, but there's just no going home. Have you seen a ketchup verse laying around? 😉

Is that another unison string tuning?

I think I’ll be having pancakes tomorrow, I’ll have all of the verses please. I love your children songs. They are fab. If I had my kiddos (preschool) here I’d be singing your tunes for sure.
