I recently got back in touch with an old friend I hadn't seen for ages. So this week's theme on the "Seasons of the Ukulele" inspired me to write this song for him and then do a video conference with him.
Note: The song came first and the prediction I make in it about the "long white beard" was fulfilled. Much to our amusement. (The photo of him is from 2004)
It's just a love song to an old friend.. who I miss and bloody Covid currently stops us reuniting in person.
(F#m) How long has it (G) been now Jok?
(F#m) No, don't tell me, it'd be a (G) major shock
It's (Em) been too long since we had (D) one of our talks
(A) Years since we both have taken stock.
(D) It was before your ad(F#m)venture in the East
Be(G)fore you became a prophet, (A) guru or priest
(D) There were Facebook conver(F#m)sations at least
(G) Before the tarot when com(A)munication ceased
(D) You're looking well for (F#m) 70 old friend
That (G) long white beard could really (A) start a trend
(D) No scratch that! That (F#m) crap you transcend
And (G) fashion's something we could never (A)comprehend
Have (D) we achieved all that we (F#m)dreamed back then?
When (G) we were relatively (A) ambitious men
(D) You creating art, me with (F#m) guitar and pen
(G) Rejecting the path of (A) straight businessmen
INSTRUMENTAL TO VERSE & CHORUS
I (D) wish this virtual visit to you (F#m) was for real
(G) So in person we could (A) judge how we feel
(D) Videos no substitute for (F#m) the real deal
There (G) are too many subtleties that (A)it can conceal
