I usually only write one Bo diddly beat song during FAWM but this one needed it.
The other day I tried to right a jaunty dance song about dinosaurs for my kindergarten class, but ended up writing a melancholic wistful song about leaving childhood behind to become a grownup. All well and good, but I needed a dinosaur song for my Kindies. I will let you know what they think about it tomorrow.
Dinosaur Dance © Sean McGaughey Feb. 8, 2021 Key of C Bo Diddly
How did Brontosaurs move on land?
Stomp, stomp, stomp,
I said how did brontosaurs move on land?
Stomp, stomp-stomp
Some so big they knocked down trees.
come do the brontosaur stomp with me.
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp-stomp
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp-stomp
It’s as easy as 1,2,3,
Come do the dinosaur dance with me.
Let’s all make a T-rex sound. ROAR! [x2]
Smaller creatures hid underground.
When they heard that T-rex sound
Chorus
Roar,
roar,
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp-stomp
It’s as easy as 1,2,3,
Come do the dinosaur dance with me.
How did velociraptors hunt their prey: Sneak, sneak Sneak….
… They’d sneak up on them night and day.
But some little creatures got away.
Sneak, sneak, sneak, sneak sneak
Sneak, sneak, sneak, sneak sneak
Roar
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp-stomp
It’s as easy as 1,2,3,
Come do the dinosaur dance with me.
(This is open ended for kids to suggest other movement) How do pterodactlyls fly? (Glide), etc,..

Great dance tune! Fun to have lyric open to kids adding from their imagination. You had me moving in my seat!

I seem to remember that kids that age are obsessed with dinosaurs. What a treat to give them a song and dance to go with it.

Brilliant idea to create a dance that is sung to the rhythm of the Bo Diddley rhythm. I think this would be a hit with my niece and nephew.

Nicely done. Songs that can be expanded as desired are a lot of fun.
(You could toss in a bit of "Bang A Gong" after "heard that T-rex sound" just to keep older adults on their toes. 😀 )

Nice! You wrote a children's dino song after all. I was wondering what your class would say if you didn't write one for them...LOL

My one year old does this thing when he likes a song, he shakes his head vigorously from side to side. He did that for your song and I thought his little head would fly off! A charming little ditty.

I’m listening to this while sitting on the couch next to my husband as we do our internet thing and I’m roaring along under my breathe. This is so much fun and I definitely want to hear how it goes with a bunch of kids

Your note about trying to write something fun and frivolous and having it evolve into some kind of painful metaphor... I felt that. I felt that in my bones. You show tremendous restraint and skill in putting that aside and writing a children's song. This is fun, especially the stomps, sneaks, and roars. I can imagine children and adults alike joining in with the actions. Heck, I would have done so too, if the operations manager wasn't looking over my shoulder. Yes, operations manager, I mean you.

That was really fun, great for the littles, I want to do it with my kids when I can sing with them again, after the covid protocols are lifted. Super cool.

what fun this will be for your kindies! i was really impressed with how you fit velociraptors into the song. that's a whole lotta syllables - but you nailed it. oh! to be a fly on the wall of your class when you sing this with them! 😀
