Words by Geoff Matthews.
I was touched by the emotion in the lyrics and hope I did them justice with the musical arrangement and performance.
The singing fades out in the refrain, I thought that would evoke the person who is lost fading away.
VERSE
There are stalkers in the hallway.
And a killer down my street.
Random acts of human kindness.
Come from everyone I meet.
VERSE
Got your picture in my bedroom.
Your favourite painting on the wall.
There’s a circle of remembrance
Clear to see for one and all.
CHORUS
I try to smile,
But I’m full of pain,
All tears without regrets.
And I can’t do happy yet.
VERSE
I thought that you would stay here.
‘til my time down here was up.
Instead I’m making sandwiches.
And packing all your stuff.
VERSE
I’m told time can be a soother.
Guess you’ve heard that one before.
But if it stretches out the truth some.
That’s a subtlety I can’t ignore.
CHORUS
I try to sing,
But I’m all choked up,
As my cheeks are getting wet.
No I can’t do happy yet.
MIDDLE
We played our games.
I’ve lost my strings.
You stole my heart.
And other things.
Life spins the wheel
Just like roulette.
No I can’t do happy yet.
OUTRO
But I hope you’re dancing, dancing,
Dancing, all the way.
And rememb’rin, rememb’rin,
Rememb’rin, sunny days.
While you are stealing,
Your way,
Up to heaven.

Superb piano playing. I am surprised that this song turns into a rather experimental pop beat but this matches so well. Good arrangement.
The only thing that could be fixed is the reverb on the vocals. It has too many heights, is a bit too long and overpronounces the s making them a bit too whispery. It is okay to be a bit 80s, but I would set the cut off frequency below the s-frequency of the singer.

Taken aback by that gorgeous intro, and appreciated the deft accompaniment throughout. Sat very nicely with the whispery 80s reverb of the lyrics. Gave the subject a certain reverence. The lyrics were an astute exploration of contrasts and contradictions, taking us through a range of emotions and some poignant little real-world details. I enjoyed this, and the decision to fade out at end was cleverly done - the lyrics justify it enough that it meets the Week 3 challenge, really 😀

The piano is gorgeous. The chorus has a great lift to it. The lyrics have a wonderful flow and really capture the feelings of the story. Lovely collab.

Powerful vocal you 100% did it justice. That first verse is so striking - the metaphor and contrast is superb! Also the piano is a beautiful addition - it sounds sublime - especially in the verses alongside the reverby vocal. Great switch up in the bridge too, brining some raw energy - this is seriously awesome
