Liner Notes

Reflective lyric about the doomed love affair between a young girl and an older man.

Lyrics

SUMMER IN MY WINTER

VERSE
You were young while I was older.
You were starting, I was fixed.
You were supple, I was molten.
I desired your wanton hips.

VERSE
Time and passion like the ocean.
Built and moved the crashing waves.
It seemed so easy with momentum.
Was this how we should behave?

CHORUS
You were the Summer,
In my Winter
Twisted pieces.
Along the way
Tangled turns
And broken puzzles.
We had our time,
We had our day.

VERSE
Drink with me our cup half empty,
Drowning out the noise within.
Wanting this to last forever,
Your naked form upon my skin.

VERSE
Fly away now foolish ardour,
Watch the lily fade and die.
Leave this limp and facile lover,
The truth’s not hidden in your eyes.

BRIDGE
We were players but from different stages.
A tragedy played down the ages.
My curtain call was your opening line.
You have your cause, and I had mine.

VERSE
Now I sit in rusty armour,
Heavy thoughts I keep inside.
I can’t remember, not for certain,
Did we have love before it died?

VERSE
I have dark and I have lonely,
You have oxygen to waste.
Help me breathe as I lay waiting,
Frittering all my hours away.

CHORUS
You were the Summer,
In my Winter
Twisted pieces.
Along the way
Tangled turns
And broken puzzles.
We had our time,
We had our day.

Superb write, Geoff! If it didn't hit a little too 'close to home' I might try to record it!

This is a really good write. It has its own rhythm, emotion and meaning, you carry the story through with great rhymes and visuals. I really enjoyed this!!

I see a lot of good lines in this lyric, and it certainly gets over the evocative thoughts of the 'singer'.
I always think that age is but a number, and your inner age is very much who you really are, not the outside.
As they say, beauty is only skin deep.

This has a sensitive touch to the perspective and can be a good starting point to start discussion on love between young and old. Ive often found it surprising that many like to talk of men reaching retirement dating younger models is a discussion point in jest, although It can hold some positives and negatives from the points of those who care to understand. I find the subject is a tough one for many, and anyone who is a happy 50yo with their 25 yo bride I try not to reject their love which may be as valid as any I can conjure. Thanks for the perspective on your lyrics, if I'm wrong in my assumption on the songs basis then apologies in advance.
