The phrase “bless the bees” popped into my head from somewhere and while I did a certain amount of hunting around for facts that would rhyme and scan there is SO MUCH cool info about bees out there I have barely scratched the surface people.
The bees are the blessing of fragrance and sweetness
They call out the peaches to burden the trees
They draw up the cherries to bursting completeness
For summer’s sweet sap, bless the bees
Bless the bees, as they bumble around,
Though they nest in a hive, or a log, or the ground
Woven deep in the circle of life they are found
As you say grace, bless the bees.
Coffee and cotton, alfalfa and clover
The honeybee rover’s a worker who shares
Vanilla and maple and apples moreover
Apricots, almonds and pears.
Native bees work with American flowers
That bees brought from Europe can’t handle by gosh
Tomatoes and eggplants the nation devours,
And blueberries, pumpkins and squash.
Put out a bee bath, with clean shallow water
Avoid using pesticides bees can’t survive.
Grow bee-friendly flowers as summer grows hotter
So honey and native bees thrive
