@thelowestbitter: This started off with me wanting something simple on a lovely warm-sounding real piano, and not midi keys. I don't own a piano though, so I went hunting for loops and found this (https://www.looperman.com/loops/detai...)
Then I added a beat, and then I chopped up the beat, and then I started messing with the piano sample. and finally added that sort of distorted siren synth noise, and it became this instead. I found the forum thread about quantisation interesting, and I'm definitely guilty of making things too straight/on beat in some of my music, so on this I didn't quantise the piano parts I added, and I messed around with the quantisation on that synthline so that on every repeat it's got a different amount of swing. Pretty pleased with the results.
I'm running on FAWM fumes and had no ideas for vocals so I sent a plea out to @adforperu, expecting to be slapped down with my last minute collab nonsense, and he sent me back this, as well as some tasty bass and a few extra beats. I *LOVE* it.
@adforperu: always loved Jed's tunes, and delighted we finally got to collab, even if it all was a bit last minute. Jed had a track he was working on that 37 others had declined, so I swept in. Tenuously, this is my track for @judypie this year, it's about our time in Japan in November last year. Also, felt I had to crack out the big chest voice harmony at the end, for the lols. Cheers Jed!
Memories; they're frontal or they're subtle
Yearning for the neon in the puddles
Fujisan is slipping us the shoulder
Getting you hot under the collar
paper walls, paper walls,
open up the window we can be reborn
Aching feet on the crimson leaves
hang your hopes on the maple trees
the maple trees
on the bullet train you can sleep on me
chasing the sun to the top of mt. misen
ring the bell so kamisami can listen
here i'm disappointed when we fall asleep
