I've been playing in a homebrew Genesys campaign run by a good friend of mine, but took the month of February off to help ensure I got the FAWM2020 challenge done. I did, however, borrow from some of the adventures taking place while I was left traveling in the back of the wagon 😉
This track consists of some samples I snagged from Freesound.org and elsewhere (see credits); a patch from BioTek v1, a VST synth by the folks at Tracktion; a recording of my daughter; and another of me (who desperately needs a better mike setup - currently I am using a Logitech gaming headset with no shield, as you probably will notice). The collection and the remaining stuff was all done in Ableton Live.
The core of the story stems from a meme on the internet which I can obviously not lay claim to (one potential original source is https://twitter.com/dr5bludgeoning/st...). The lyrics however were written by me.
(Phineas is a gnome mage, full name Phineas Alistair Barnaby Shillingfeet Throckmorton, for perhaps obvious reasons)

Hail and well met Phineas! Tell us a tale.
Well I have been traveling far navigating by star
A member of Cropper Company naga killers we are
Between Fort Draeden and the town of Moonhaven
We took a short break our thirsts to slake
And saw something odd, perhaps something fake.
An enchanted grove appeared near the road
And served as a goad for us to probe
We entered with attempts at stealth
Two mages, a doctor, two fighters and an elf
Ha! With that lot surprise returned to the shelf.
We chanced upon a fork in the path
Each choice guarded by humans who no weapon hath
Yet they stood firm and sincere
And then a sign did appear
“Hark Traveler!” I did read aloud
“A riddle for thee!” I chortled to our crowd
“One of us lies and the other is truthful”
“one of us is old and the other youthful”
“Ask one of us just one question if you please
“Then choose your path from these trees
“Choose well and smile for treasure is yours
“Choose poor and cry at your corpses on the floor”
As I read this and began to think a bit
One fighter of ours then started to fidget
Waiting no more she drew her great hammer
And smote one man in the head before he could stammer
His head now jelly his body fell down
She turned to the other, now sweat on his crown
“Is he dead?” She asked him to say
While he crapped his pants he did said “nay”
She turned to us then her eyes on fire
And yelled at us “THIS ONE LIAR”
Ah, Phineas, I remain curious – which path did you choose?
Doesn’t matter, I’m alive – bring more booze!
