Had my first in-person FAWM collab yesterday with the very prolific @ductapeguy aka Sean McGaughey. Sean was on his way back to Midland from a rally in Niagara Falls and popped by for a visit. He brought out an idea he had for an early challenge and we worked it into the following song about the ones say things and tell us what to do. Great to meet and work with you, Sean!
Sean's bit: I admire Jamie's musicianship and his economy with words, so I really wanted to work with him. I brought him an incomplete idea and the first thing he did was pare the length of each line in half. Then we really started tinkering. He brought out a gem here from a rough uncut stone. It was great to meet with Jamie in person, and realize how much we have in common (same influence, same profession, same assignment, about the same age, etc..) This was a pleasure to work on and it came together very quickly.
They S. McGaughey/J. Shea
They said Einstein wasn't bright
They said the Wrights would not take flight.
They said the moon was out of reach
And you must practice what they preach
They said that women must stay home,
They don't have a right to roam
They said the Metis could reside
On some land they cast aside
Who the Hell are They anyway?
What gives them the right to say?
It's time to show them the power of we
It starts with us, you and me
They said we have to go to war
No matter what they’re fighting for
Our stockpile must increase
So that we can keep the peace
They said to burn the fossil fuel
And we follow them like fools
Tell them that you won’t be led
Tell them you will lead instead
They're the ones that turn the lights out.
When there's something we should see.
They're the ones who keep the money.
When the hungry need to eat.
