I always adored the melodramatic side of metal, especially the slow, sludgy Gothic tinged elements. Things like Type O Negative, Draconian and My Dying Bride really let you sink into the music.
Anyways - this is loosely based on a ghost story called 'The Ash Tree' about a rich dude who had a witch put to death and as a result, all who lived in his home for future generations had to endure the departed witches curse. I had fun with the story and added my own elements 😀
Oooh and there are also wonderful operatic vocals from my lovely wife, Bethan!
A shadow shackled to the roots along the wires
The rotting promise, on her lips atop the pyre
"and now you all, will remember me in lore
a malediction on this house, evermore.."
He glimpsed a woman, crawling fast along the branch
collecting from the twisted ash, a sprig for such witchcraft..
“by Luna’s light I come to take what I will find”
But he determined, that her wild nefarious soul had to die..
The ash is crawling to the window, side the bed
stiff and lifeless – as the servants abide the dead
“I am the dark that kills the light inside of all
In returning, I am deathless, as the roots along the hall”
