This has been a year of increasingly difficult union negotiations against a government that seems completely disinterested in meaningful negotiations. All fall and winter I have been trying to write a rousing union song. On Friday, February 21, all the teachers in Ontario will be out on a 1 day province-wide strike. We have previously done rotating strike days but not all at once. Here is what I came up with.
Update Feb 21: I recorded a live version on uke on the picket line.

We did not draw this line
But we will walk this line
We will hold the line together
We. Will. Not. Cross.
We Stand in Line
We can redraw the line.
Unity is strength
we can stand up to the Boss
Every decade or so, another con regime

concocts a crisis in public education
They hobble and cut until a shell remains

A fire-sale for their cronies has always been the scheme.
But parents and teachers can dance their dance again
With all its familiar steps and turns.
They use slander and half-truths to advance their plans
We have won before, we will fight them and win.
A frog in a cauldron doesn’t really notice
When the comfortable water becomes dangerously hot
So when left to simmer in a pressure cooker

It could be boiled alive or it could jump out of the pot
