My daughter asked me whether the government was spying on us through our television. I said "Uhm... probably not?"
So, yeah, time to write a song about that.
I’ve achieved the higher function of surveillance
It’s no mean feat, and no small matter in the balance
But it’s only fair to exchange a snapshot of your life for security
And you probably don’t care or even think about the fact that I’m Watching you watching me
So take a break, from your life that’s so demanding
Relax your mind, the programming is outstanding
Movies, videos, the music, not to mention vintage and modern tv
And Trust me I won’t abuse that I’m watching you watching me
Why should you worry? There’s nothing so scandalous about your life on the couch
Eating Ben and Jerry’s staring at the glass teat with a slightly open mouth
Society works by balancing freedom and compliance
Would it really be so bad to get a little guidance?
So enjoy, but just take notice of the rules
Be happy, we all benefit from better tools
Except for the bad ones, the folks down the hall who hate everyone in the land of the free
And won’t you be glad when we’ve captured them all, by watching….
Watching you watching me
