I went to a 7-8 year olds novice hockey game today to cheer for a couple of my students. This song grew from there.
As far as arrangement, I'm kind of chuffed to do a fullband uke-rock arrangement.

Saturday morning at the arena
Novice hockey gets their shot
Boys turned players by skates and pads
First time to show what they’ve got.
They can kinda skate, know some of the rules
Learning things that you don’t in school
The best players work as part of a team
No need to keep score
They’re building their dreams
It’s beginning to feel like the real thing
Sometimes skates are wings
When you make that pass, take that shot
and the puck learns how to sing
That moment little boys and girls
become players in their own eyes
At a little rink, in a little town
Anywhere in the country wide.
He coaches the children three times a week
Standing behind the glass
He knows how the game can sculpt a life
His own hockey dreams decades past
On backyard ponds across the country
In minor leagues or a game of shinny
It’s never about money or fame
Kids are playing for love of the game
