I am usually a very positive and affirmative person. But recent events (described in the song) have caused me to question my rosy outlook.
So here is an Acoustic Rap to exorcise some of that negativity.
I was (Am) walking the dog down an (Dm) unfamiliar street
When a (Bb) curious sight we (Am) chanced there to meet
Three guys stood outside a (Dm) huge hardware store
(Bb) Staring at knives like they were (Am) planning for a war
Or (E7) were they fantasising (Am) murdering their wives
Was I (Bb) witnessing the (E7) violence in our (Am) everyday lives
My (Am) partner was walking a(Dm)long an avenue
When a (Bb) guy with three small dogs (Am) hove into view
One of them leapt at her and (Dm) bit her on the calf
The (Bb) owner didn't stop and (Am)went off with a laugh
She had to (E7) stagger to hospital (Am) all on her own
Have we (Bb)turned our city (E7)streets into a (Am)combat zone?
At the (Am) hospital we waited for (Dm) her to be seen
Next to a (Bb) girl with a black eye no (Am)older than 14
Escorted by a woman with a (Dm)bruise on her arm
I was (Bb) guessing her husband had (Am) done them both harm.
Then a (E7) guy started screaming that he (Am) should be seen first
The (Bb)rest of us (E7)cowered at his (Am)violent outburst
The (Am) next day I was passing a (Dm)local high school
Saw a (Bb)bully in the playground like the (Am)Lord of Misrule
He had some kid cornered like a (Dm) rat at bay
While (Bb) all of the teachers (Am) looked the other way
Then a (E7)bell rang and the kids slowly (Am)went back in
As I (Bb) thought back to the (E7) cruelty I had l (Am)lived in my own skin
We (Am) witness couples arguing or (Dm) kids being hit
And (Bb) drunks getting aggressive more (Am) times than we admit
We've all seen combative drivers in a (Dm)dangerous mood
We all (Bb) know pugnacious neighbours (Am) involved in some feud
But we pre(E7)tend it isn't happening through our (Am)instinct to survive
De(Bb)nying all the violence in our (E7)everyday (Am)lives.
